I'm Juergen Manske-Eimke
I will be your host at the Atiu Guesthouse and you will meet me or my wife Andrea upon arrival at Atiu airport, when you have booked your stay with us.
With a professional background as retail sales person I studied economy as a second career. I worked for many years in Port Harcourt as General Manager of a German-Nigerian construction company. There I met Andrea, we married and migrated to Atiu in 1983.
I am a founding member, share holder and manager of the Atiu Development Corporation which operates a food store in the village of Areora and a filling station in the village of Mapumai. The Atiu Development Corporation holds shares in the Alternative Accommodation Ltd., the company which manages the Atiu Guesthouse, Are Manuiri.
In 1984 I was instrumental in reviving the coffee industry on Atiu and in establishing the Atiu Coffee Factory. As one of the company's share holders and its manager, I am responsible for the production and processing of our island's specialty coffee which ranges amongst the world's finest. A taste of it is part of the guesthouse's many free services. I would enjoy taking you on a tour around the Atiu Coffee Factory's plantation and processing plant.
I'm Andrea Eimke
I began my professional career as interpreter for Spanish, English and German. Work took me to Saudi Arabia and Nigeria where I met Juergen. We married. I decided on a career change and engaged in formal training as an embroiderer. In 1983, Juergen and I migrated to Atiu.
When I do not help Juergen to look after our guests at the Atiu Guesthouse, I work full-time as textile artist and director of the Atiu Fibre Arts Studio, which I co-founded in 1986. In 2008 I gained a PG Diploma in Art and Design and am currently studying towards a Master's degree.
Dr. Susanne Kuechler and I co-authored the book "Tivaivai - The Social Fabric of the Cook Islands" which the British Museum Press published in 2009.
Some of my works decorate the Atiu Guesthouse and I would enjoy showing you more of my art at my Studio's gallery in Teenui.
